Capt Mat is the founder of Boom Sailing.  Mat is a Kiwi born and bred, and his love of sailing has taken him all around the world. He has sailed professionally all his life, including running sailing charters in Nelson and the Abel Tasman, before settling on the Coromandel and Whitianga as a place to lay down his roots.

Mat is respected locally for his boating skills having worked recently as Harbourmaster for the Coromandel region. But it's when Mat is on the water sharing his love of sailing that he is 'in the zone' and with Boom Sailing Mat is realising his dream - to share the ultimate in sailing tourism.

Now Mat has pulled together the ultimate sailing team to take you on a sailing adventure that will blow your mind.

Capt Tomo

Capt Tomo

Captain Tomo is our quiet achiever. If not one of, then most certainly the best ever charter skipper you will find anywhere in the world!

That's a big call we know, but it's just how it is. Tomo has a massive list of fine achievements in the sailing world being a skipper of multiple super yachts, countless ocean sailing passages on all shapes and sizes of boats. To add to this he has thousands of days chartering all around NZ's amazing coastline.

Tomo has sailed as skipper on all the legendary NZ sail boats including Americas cup boats and our main man, Peter Blake's record breaking round the world racing yachts.

After Capt Mat thinks he's finished fixing something we give Tomo a quick call and he quietly comes in and fixes it properly when Mats not around. In this pic, Tomo is clearly owning a very sweet mo and is up the top of a ridiculously high mast doing his routine checks at sea while on passage from some continent to another. Dive, surf, sailing instructing, Tomo is the man. We are pretty lucky he decided to come back to the best part of the world to spend his time sailing here with us. BOOM!
